He is the schoolboy's hero as giant killer and outlaw, he is the man beloved of his friends even to the point of offering their lives and destiny to him, he is the master statesman and kingdom builder, he is the musician, inspired poet, and organiser of Temple worship, he is the sinner who gave opportunity to other men to mock and blaspheme the God of Israel, he is our kinsman in the slough of despond and on the heights of Zion - Daivd delivered and redeemed by the mercy and grace of God.

To him came the golden promises of a King to come, for whom was reserved the throne of the Lord in Jerusalem. To this King we say: Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lrod, the root and offspring of David.
